Who will I marry?
By Linda Wairegi
I’m not a ranting 30-something lady,
employed and living alone in a big house or a small apartment. Lately, there has
been a lot of dialogue about the boy child and his neglected rights. A few
feminists have laughed at these sentiments and cajole the boy child to fight
for his rights like how women are still pushing hard for the girl child.
I say that if the boy child carries on
being neglected then who will you marry. Ladies really need to be worried.
At this rate, the girl child is becoming more independent, competitive and
aware of her rights. Whereas, the boy child is still living with the same
ideals that his father and his great-grandfather did e.g. the man is
responsible for making all the decisions in the households.
A little boy is still caught up at
crossroads about what society expects from him. It means that the rights of the
boy child need to go through re-definition. If things don’t change and people
keep popping the question of ‘What about the boy child?’. Then you’d better
start asking yourself who the ladies in your life will marry if the boy child
keeps being ignored.
