Kenya's marathon star Ritah Jiptoo has
been banned for two years from participating in the game after
testing positive for a performance enhancing drug. Athletics Kenya,
the body that governs the running sport in the country announced that
it tested the marathoner positive for erythropoietin(EPO), a popular
performance enhancing drug.
Jeptoo who is 33 years old was to be
crowned the best marathoner in the world in 2014 by the World
Marathon Majors after winning the Boston Marathon three times and the
Chicago Marathon two time but all was halted when it emerged that in
late October she had tested positive for a banned substance.
According to her husband, speaking the media last year said that he believes that Ritah started doping in 2011.
The marathoner has already been denied
her share of the $500,000 prize for winning the 2013/14 World
Marathon Majors following the announcement and she won't be able to
compete until after October 29, 2016.
As she serves her suspension we wish
her well and that she will come back in the game sober and prove to
the world that she is a star in good faith
