So much has been said about the East African Community and
the African Union. If you have not heard of the two, well, now you have. So,
what is the point of rallying African states under one union? Who should I support,
the proponents or the antagonists of this promising movement. A philosopher
would find the above question too ridiculous.
In this case, it has three interpretations.
One, it may be interpreted as why should African states unite and not Africa
states join the already well established unions? Must it be Africa for Africa
and West for West? Second, it may be taken to ask why it is African countries
that need to be united and not the troubled Middle East? Why does it have to be
anyone anyway? Last, the above question may be taken as asking why it is
reasonable for any continent or group of nations to unite at all. What is the
reasoning?
Whichever side you are, you must have rigid and valid
answers for responding to these questions. The best reason for any actions is
based on self interest. The reason we stand for others is because in most cases
there is a deep desire in our hearts that we seek to satisfy by attending to
others. By this reasoning, the best means of convincing a man to help you reach
your end is by proving to them that your interest is their interest lest you
want to result in authoritarianism. I value freedom to justice. So in my next few articles, I will show you
why it is in the best interest for us to unite as a one Africa. But that only if
you have already agreed with me that unless it brings something for you it is
of no use for you. I will however restrict my answer to the three in one questions
from the perspective of the entrepreneur. I hope to see you then.
