I am a doctor, a carpenter, an economist, a news reporter, a
computer scientist; just say what you want, I am. Things have got so casual in our
job market that little regard is given to professionalism. No one today in this
Eastern part of Africa gives a damn about what you did in college or university
if there is any difference between the two. You became what is needed in the
market by word of mouth than by attending any specific classes. </div>

If the market
readily thirsts for doctors, you know what is needed of you, a very clean white
coat, a fake bald for men, some specks, and of course the confidence to
mercilessly administer water in the name of a malaria vaccine. One attribute
though must be possessed by all adherents of the fake it till you make it
principle. This golden rule is to always have an excuse to give for whatever
mistake you may make in the line of duty. You don’t let the victims or the
public doubt your competence. </div>

By this rule, people have been able to switch careers at
will. Hoteliers have made very good security agents, economists have treated Ebola,
carpenters have generated electricity, and computer scientists have been in the
forefront of animal husbandry. I am an adherent of this principle too, so don’t
expect me to give anything negative about it. Besides, the end must always justify
the means. Provided whatever I am doing puts food on my table, why should I care?
This order of things had worked very right for our country till when at some
point those people from different professions who had faked to be security
agents suddenly for some reasons tried to fake it for a second time to be news reporters.

You see, since the beginning of the year, deaths had been occurring
due to negligence of the security system in our country. Since I and fellow
countrymen fakers must stick to this principle of excuses, we faithfully tolerated
with our security officers who gave this and that excuse for the attacks. You know,
they pointed fingers at some internal conflicts within, tribalism, politics,
and the list of excuses went on. We knew our dead brothers would in a way
forgive us for forgiving the irresponsibility that had caused their deaths. Furthermore,
they had been part and parcel of us and they too understood the principle of
faking it till you make it. One must have an excuse. </div>

We waited patiently for the attacks to stop, for deaths to
stop. Somehow, we had faith that our fellow men of reason would in a way curb
the crime. We prayed earnestly that our rule would prevail this trying time and
maybe thereafter we would make it a national slogan. And our motto as a country
would be “fake it till you make it.” However, in a sudden turn of things, top
agents of security tried in a last resort to replace the principle of giving
excuses with that of faking it for the second time. They tried to be news
reporters. Instead of giving reasons and excuses, they only would appear on T.V
reporting things they are supposed to undertake. Like a child who blames the
older brother for their own mistakes to the parent, they have come up with such
a reporting strategy. And they would tell us, so and so is against us, so and so
wants this country to go to war, this party wants to destabilize the country. </div>

I with fellow fakers roared in anger to denounce this ungodly
act. How dare someone fake it for the second time when my first fake has not
even succeeded? We told them to the eye, what you are giving as our problem is
your problem to handle. A fake neurosurgeon asked them in agony, if I forget a
scissors in my patient’s tummy, do I make that your problem? I take it upon me
to remove the scissors silently before the patient losses life. Therefore, you,
if you know who is behind these killings, be it the opposition or the
proverbial seven demons, deal with it and stop them. Don’t just report to us,
otherwise you are faking it for the second time. We are sure for one, we can
never go into war, besides, despite our expertise we cannot fake war. We will
stay at peace with fellow fakers because our endeavors can only succeed in a
peaceful environment. Only you stop nagging us by trying to fake it for the
second time.</div>

The wisdom based on analysis of information
relative to the future is something that is accessible to any logic. It does not
require any specialized professional skill or sophisticated data analysis
skills, but rather, it begs us to put ourselves in our fellow investors’ shoes,
and try to think like them under a given set of circumstances. The article is

Now, yesterday, a reader questioned me about a promise I had
made in that article through my Email account. It is good to keep promises you
know. I had to go through it again and I discovered I had left the title
hanging. I was to give a practical example of the application of this reasoning
of positional investment in my next article. Here today, I intent to give a
practical example of how people have reaped better than others in Kenya’s
vegetable market using this logic.</div>

As is apparent to every Kenyan, the market for vegetables in
Kenya goes in a pattern of low and peak periods in terms of supply. When supply is at its peak, there is surplus in the market, and the price hits a bottom low
while a lot of product goes to waste. During the lows, there is scarcity in the
market that rockets the prices to the highest. 
Funny enough, most of the vegetable product is not rainfall dependent.
We therefore don’t expect their prices to fluctuate like those of rain
dependent ones. Yet in reality this seasonality is observed in the movement of
prices of vegetables. Basically, this is because of how different individuals
analyze market information of surplus and scarcity. Think of that investor who
sells during this period of scarcity; compare the profits they get with those
of one who bring their product unknowingly to find a surplus.</div>

The difference between the “lucky investor” and the
unfortunate victim of circumstances, who sells during a surplus period, is
rooted in how the two interpret the information of a present surplus or
scarcity relative to the future. One prefers to go in the opposite direction of
the others. For one, the lucky one in this case, a scarcity in the market means
that other investors are still seeing this scarcity and will try to fill the
gap by investing in the scarce product. To him/her, a scarcity does not imply
we should invest in that product, but rather, in one which is in surplus as
soon many will abandon its produce. As time elapses, he/she will be moving in
the opposite direction of the other investors. They will enlarge their profit
margin double wise. One, during surplus when they are planting, the market
prices for material will be relatively cheaper, while, on the other hand, the
time to sell prices will have moved higher. </div>

What then do you think will happen when all of the investors
have this information? Is there not a risk of a prolonged scarcity or surplus?
Only when you are able to foresee this can you boast of having the capabilities
of a positional investor.</div>

A man who buys grain during abundant harvest and sells it
during the dry spell is a speculator. He is more rational not only in thinking
but also in doing. For wisdom tells him that a time will come when people will
lack the grain they presently have in abundance. The pleasantness that
accompanies plenty of what to eat, complimented by the forces of the market
favors this speculator to buy at a very low price. </div>

After a while, when nearly
all is exhausted in our stores, the attitude of the society changes from one of
joyous sharing to one of adversary and eating alone in secret. This too, a
climate of selfishness during deficiency that segments the society in groupings
based on what one has in store, favors the speculator to sell at exorbitant
prices to individual consumers who once sold in togetherness.</div>

Shall we gang together during this time of scarcity against
the speculator? Evaluating things keenly will prove this as a misleading line
of thought. It is not the fault of the speculator to take advantage of the
negligence of others. In fact, if we single out the speculator as our cause for
our fall from glory, we would be compelled by the same yardstick to include a
farmer who plants in time to harvest abundantly in this list of enemies of the
society. We owe him thanks for saving us from our own negligence. By taking
risk, he stores for us for the future. </div>

<p>Contrary to many people's desire to gain exposure and an opportunity to step on a platform that will catapult them into their desired destiny, Ruth Matete, the winner of Tusker Project Fame season 5 is not happy about her decision to have joined the academy. </p>
<p>"Given an opportunity again or if I was taken back I wouldn't join TPF." She said these words during an interview on a local morning show. The fame, the attention, the criticism, the challenges and change of lifestyle are part of her top reasons. Her spirituality was challenged by critics who think she should have not joined a secular platform. Being a born again Christian has gotten her a fair deal of criticism both from fans and haters. </p>
<p>People should not define you. Criticism will always be there, learn to live above it. She is currently taking a Bible course not to be a pastor but for her music.</p>
